JAHANNEM, OUTER DARKNESS—The man who ordered the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon expressed confusion and surprise Monday to find himself in the lowest plane of Na’ar, Islam’s Hell.

“I was promised I would spend eternity in Paradise, being fed honeyed cakes by 67 virgins in a tree-lined garden,” said Osama bin Laden, between attempts to vomit up the wasps, hornets, and live coals infesting his stomach. “But instead, I am fed the boiling feces of traitors by malicious, laughing Ifrit. Is this to be my reward for destroying the enemies of my faith?”

The rest of bin Laden’s words turned to raw-throated shrieks, as a tusked, asp-tongued demon burst his eyeballs and drank the fluid that ran down his face.

According to Hell sources, the eternally damned terrorist has struggled to understand why he have been subjected to soul-withering, infernal torture ever since his arrival.

“There was a tumultuous conflagration at our gates, and from it stepped forth this terrorist, the blessed name of the Lord already turning to molten brass on his accursed lips,” said Iblis The Thrice-Damned, the cacodemon charged with conscripting new arrival into the ranks of the forgotten. “Indeed, I do not know what he was expecting, but he certainly didn’t seem prepared to be skewered from eye socket to bunghole and then placed on a spit so that his flesh could be roasted by the searing gale of flatus which issues forth from the haunches of Asmoday.”

“I was told that these Americans were enemies of the one true religion, and that Heaven would be my reward for my noble sacrifice,” said bin Laden, moments before his jaw was sheared away by faceless homunculi. “But now I am forced to suckle from the 16 poisoned leathern teats of Gophahmet, Whore of Betrayal, until I burst from an unwholesome engorgement of curdled bile. This must be some sort of terrible mistake.”

Exacerbating the terrorist’s torture, which include being hollowed out and used as prophylactics by thorn-cocked Gulbuth The Rampant, is the fact that he will be forced to endure such suffering in sight of the Paradise he was expecting.

“It might actually be the most painful thing we can do, to show this murderer the untold pleasures that would have awaited him in Paradise, if only he had lived a pious life,” said Praxitas, Duke of Those Willingly Led Astray. “I mean, it’s tough enough being forced through a wire screen by the callused palms of Halcorym and then having your entrails wound onto a stick and fed to the toothless, foul-breathed swine of Gehenna. But to endure that while watching the righteous drink from a river of wine? That can’t be fun.”

Underworld officials said they have not yet decided on a permanent punishment for the terrorist.

“Eventually, we’ll settle on an eternal and unending task for him,” said Lord Androalphus, High Praetor of Excruciations. “But for now, everyone down here wants a crack at him. The legions of fang-wombed hags will take their pleasure on his shattered carcass for most of this afternoon. Tomorrow, his flesh will be melted from his bones like wax in the burning embrace of the Mother of Cowards. The day after that, he’ll be sodomized by the Fallen and his bowels shredded by a demonic ejaculate of burning sand. Then, on Sunday, Satan gets him all day. I can’t even imagine what he’s got cooked up for him.”

It’s something of an open secret that Amazon is working on an Android tablet and I am 99% certain they are having Samsung build one for them. Does the world really need yet another tablet? If it were anyone else, I’d say no, but I think Amazon is uniquely positioned to layer in a set of products and services that would differentiate its tablet from the flood of Android tablets hitting the market this year.

Let’s start with a critical question about this tablet: What version of Android will it run? I think there’s an assumption that any Amazon tablet will run Android 3.0, Google’s tablet-specific version of the OS. However, given Google’s recent moves to tighten how OEMs can use Honeycomb, this might not be so likely. In fact, it’s entirely possible that Amazon’s tablet, like the NOOK Color, will use Android as a base upon which to build a totally customized experience that tightly integrates Amazon services. That integration would let Amazon charge a lot less for its tablet than it would otherwise. The reason Barnes & Noble has been able to price the NOOK Color so aggressively ($250 versus $350 to $450 for comparably-sized and spec’d Android tablets) is because they’re assuming you’re going to buy a bunch of books from them over the course of owning it.

Amazon will make a similar assumption, except that they won’t just be selling you Kindle books, they’d also use the tablet as a platform for selling music (see that cloud locker they just rolled out?), video (you can bet Amazon Instant Video will be a big part of this), and apps from the Android app store they just launched (which is the biggest indication of all that they’ve got something in the works). You probably wouldn’t have something as open as a regular Android tablet (at least not without hacking it), but I think most users would accept the trade-off if it meant a much lower price of entry. And besides, Amazon will probably have a big enough library of apps by launch to help ease the pain of living in a walled garden.

Amazon understands what’s at stake, and while they aren’t a consumer electronics company, they have shown with the Kindle that they can produce a great product and then expertly tie that product into a content platform. I’m not sure I can stress how non-trivial an accomplishment this is, especially for a company that’s mainly known as a retailer. There are full-fledged consumer electronics companies that still haven’t figured this stuff out.

If they’re smart, they’ll be aggressive here and price the tablet at no more than $250. They just don’t need to achieve pricing parity with the NOOK Color (since that’ll probably be what a lot of people compare it to), they need to come out swinging with a price point that’ll draw a strong contrast with the iPad’s $500 point-of-entry. A retail price of $199 would be better still. That’d be really aggressive, but Amazon just introduced a new discounted Kindle that shaves $25 of the price if you’re willing to look at “special offers” on your homescreen, so it’s not as inconceivable as it once might have been. (One caveat: this is all assuming it’s a 7-inch tablet, it’d be a lot harder for Amazon to sell a 10-inch tablet for $200 or $250, though they could perhaps come in between $300 and $400.)

The other wild card Amazon has to play is its Amazon Prime program, where you pay $80 a year and get free two-day shipping on most products and end up spending way more money at Amazon than you would otherwise (I speak from personal experience here, I once had a ladder overnighted to me). There have been rumors in the past that Amazon was going to offer a free Kindle to every Prime member, and while it’s hard to see them just handing out $250 or $300 tablets, there might be some services on the tablet that are free for Prime members. They do already offer Amazon Instant Video to members for free, offering that same access via a tablet might be enough to convince a lot of Prime members to buy an Amazon tablet (they just need to expand the library first).

When will it launch? I don’t know, but I’d guess it won’t be too long, probably no later than this summer (the Kindle 3 launched last August). Whenever it is, I’ll be surprised if they don’t come out with something substantially different than all the other Android tablets out there. They have all the pieces in place, now we wait to see what they do with them.

Elizabeth Taylor, the two-time Oscar winner who was as world famous for her private life as for her acting, died Wednesday in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure. She was 79.

The former child star had cemented her reputation as a good actress and a stunningly gorgeous young woman by age 19. But a decade later, when both Eddie Fisher and Richard Burton left their wives for her, the violet-eyed actress went from being the world’s most beautiful woman to the world’s most wicked, at least to many.

That eventually gave way to her rep as the world’s most courageous woman, as she battled a series of illnesses, became one of the first celebs to talk openly about her substance abuse and addictions and led the fight against AIDS.

In an industry dominated by male stars in the second half of the century, Taylor was an exception. Her salary for the 1963 film “Cleopatra” was unprecedented: $1 million. Her liaisons with leading men and her eight marriages sparked plenty of controversy but did not bring down the kind of career censure that other nonmonogamous women (notably Ingrid Bergman) suffered. She remained much talked about (and sometimes even admired) even in the worst of times.

And she was the last of a breed, traveling with huge entourages, spending lavishly on diamonds and other luxuries and living a life of old-style Hollywood glamour even in the 1980s and ’90s, when most celebs insisted in interviews that they led quiet, ordinary lives.

Perhaps because of her larger-than-life image, she remained a star long after her final leading role in films (1980′s “The Mirror Crack’d”), and until the mid-1990s she still grabbed bigger headlines in newspapers and tabloids than more current actors and actresses.

However, as the Internet and fanzines changed coverage of celebs in the 21st century, Taylor barely rated a mention in her rare public appearances, which were usually tied to some charity function.

Taylor had the potential to be a great actress but claimed she never had enough ambition. When she put her mind to it, she was flawless. She amassed five Oscar nominations — not bad for someone without much ambition.

Taylor was born Feb. 27, 1932, in London to American parents. She had her first ballet lesson at age 3, and when she was 7, her parents returned to the U.S. and settled in Los Angeles, where her father operated an art gallery at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Her first film was “There’s One Born Every Minute,” released by Universal (where she was under contract) in 1942. After Louis B. Mayer signed her on at MGM, she appeared in “Lassie Come Home” in 1943 and the following year became a star at the age of 12 in “National Velvet” (in between there were “Jane Eyre” and “White Cliffs of Dover”).

And she remained a star for more than half a century.

Several young-lady roles followed in the late ’40s, including “A Date With Judy,” “Life With Father,” “Julia Misbehaves” and 1949′s “Little Women.”

Taylor’s first grown-up romantic leading role was opposite Robert Taylor in 1949′s “Conspirator.” But it was Vincente Minnelli’s “Father of the Bride” (and its year-later sequel “Father’s Little Dividend”) that showed her promise as a leading lady.

Her marital relationships were more closely followed and speculated upon than her films. She met hotel heir Nicky Hilton in 1949, when she was 17, and married him in 1950 (when “Father of the Bride” was released); they divorced nine months later. That same year she received her high school diploma at Los Angeles’ University High School.

Her performance in 1951′s “A Place in the Sun” was the first to prove her mettle as an actress (her work was called “a minor miracle” by Variety), and her cooing come-on to Montgomery Clift, “Tell mama,” is a great moment in film history.

For the next several years, she juggled career, marriage and motherhood: In 1952 she married the much older Michael Wilding and had two sons, Michael and Christopher.

During these years, MGM (where her weekly salary quickly rose from $1,500 to $5,000) put her in bland comedies like “Love Is Better Than Ever,” costume dramas such as “Ivanhoe” and 1954′s sudsy “Rhapsody.” She took over for an ailing Vivien Leigh in “Elephant Walk,” but it didn’t do much for her career, nor did “The Last Time I Saw Paris.”

When Grace Kelly retired to princessdom, director George Stevens hired Taylor for 1956′s “Giant,” teaming her with Rock Hudson and James Dean. The following year, she received her first Oscar nomination, for “Raintree County,” opposite close friend Clift, whose face was disfigured and repaired during production (after a drunken auto accident upon leaving Taylor’s home).

Following her second divorce in 1956, she married bon vivant producer Michael Todd, by whom she had a third child, Liza.

Todd, who took home the best pic Oscar for 1956′s “Around the World in 80 Days,” died in a New Mexico plane crash in 1958. Taylor was grief-stricken as she played the lead in Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” for which she was paid $500,000 and 10% of the gross.

The film resulted in her second Oscar nom, but Taylor quickly outraged fans by pairing up with Eddie Fisher, then married to one of her best friends, Debbie Reynolds. They were married soon thereafter. She and Fisher adopted a German orphan (who later took on Richard Burton’s name to become Maria Burton).

In 1959, another Williams adaptation, “Suddenly Last Summer,” brought her a third consecutive Oscar nomination.

She finally won on her fourth straight bid, for 1960′s “Butterfield 8,” though many felt it was a sentimental win: Shortly after “Cleopatra” started lensing, she was hospitalized with pneumonia and received an emergency tracheotomy. “Hell, I even voted for her,” snapped the spurned Reynolds.

After the ceremony, Taylor fainted in a backstage restroom.

“Cleopatra” had brought her the then-unheard-of $1 million fee, though by the time it was over she had collected more than $2 million. The at-the-time most expensive movie ever made ($37 million) nearly sank 20th Century Fox; the studio had to sell off precious parcels of its backlot (which became Century City).

During the filming of “Cleopatra,” she took up with co-star Burton, even though both were married at the time. The Fisher-Reynolds-Taylor incident had provoked some public wrath, but not to the extent of this one; the Vatican went so far as to call Taylor’s affair with Burton “erotic vagrancy.” When the two finally married, their bouts with alcohol and their extravagant lifestyle (they reportedly went through $30 million) were legendary.

Some observed at the time that Taylor made Burton a star and he made her an actress. That’s an oversimplification, but certainly Taylor turned in one of her best performances in 1966′s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” opposite Burton. Taylor won her second Oscar for her work as a blowsy, middle-aged vicious-but-tender drunk. (The character was supposedly 50, but the 34-year-old was aged for the role.)

The two also shone in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1967 film “The Taming of the Shrew”; their 11 movies together also included “The V.I.P.s” and “The Sandpiper” (both gloriously campy pics that dealt with marital infidelity, trading on their real-life reputations), “Doctor Faustus,” “The Comedians,” “Boom,” “Under Milkwood,” “Hammersmith Is Out” and the 1973 telefilm “Divorce His, Divorce Hers.”

They parodied themselves in a 1971 episode of the “The Lucy Show.” They divorced, remarried, then divorced again. After their second divorce, the pair capitalized on their notoriety by touring in Noel Coward’s “Private Lives,” which also played on Broadway. The gimmick worked, and the show sold out.

Away from Burton, Taylor had a few interesting roles. She starred opposite Marlon Brando (replacing Clift, who died shortly before principal photography) in 1967′s “Reflections in a Golden Eye,” a quirky but interesting John Huston adaptation of Carson McCullers. She also did amusing and effective turns in 1970′s “The Only Game in Town,” with Warren Beatty; 1972′s “X, Y and Zee” (or “Zee and Co.,” as it was called overseas); and “Night Watch” the following year.

But in general, the leading roles were pretty lame; though she’d been at the top of box office stars since 1960, she dropped from the list after 1968, never to return again.

“The Driver’s Seat” in 1974 and “The Blue Bird” in 1976 were barely released, a fate similar to that of 1977′s “A Little Night Music,” in which she sang “Send in the Clowns.” In 1980′s “The Mirror Crack’d,” an adaptation of an Agatha Christie mystery, she played an actress; it was her last leading role on the bigscreen.

Taylor went to Washington, marrying Republican Sen. John Warner of Virginia and for a time playing the dutiful D.C. wife — and gaining an enormous amount of weight. After a time, the marriage waned. She publicly booed his positions on women and the draft. Finally, in 1982, they divorced.

A year later she entered the Betty Ford Clinic for prescription drug and alcohol dependency.

There were some TV films such as “Return Engagement,” “Between Friends,” “Malice in Wonderland,” “Poker Alice,” “There Must be a Pony” and Williams adaptation “Sweet Bird of Youth” in 1989. She also appeared in the soaps “General Hospital” and “All My Children” and provided the voice of baby Maggie in an episode of animated series “The Simpsons.”

In 1988 she returned to the Betty Ford Clinic, where she met her eighth husband, the non-pro, two decades younger Larry Fortensky. In 1990, she almost succumbed to pneumonia again, then married Fortensky in a $1.5 million ceremony on Michael Jackson’s estate. Before separating from Fortensky in 1995, she twice had surgery for hip replacement.

In 1985, after the death of her friend Hudson, Taylor became a founding co-chairman for amfAR (the American Foundation for AIDS Research). Thereafter she crisscrossed the country and the world, calling attention to and raising funds for AIDS research and care, more so than any other celebrity. In 1993, she received the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences’ Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

In 1987, she launched Passion, her own perfume (through Chesebrough-Pond’s), which was soon generating sales of $70 million a year. In 1989, a men’s Passion was created, and in 1991 a second women’s scent, White Diamonds, was also successful. A third perfume, Black Pearls, was introduced in 1995.

She received the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. “You make me realize how much I miss acting, but my life is full and good,” she said at the ceremony.

In 1994, she filed suit to stop production on an unauthorized TV biography but failed. The “and then I married” piece succeeded only in the ratings.

That same year, she did a humorous cameo as Wilma Flintstone’s mother in “The Flintstones.” (She had also made an appearance in the 1988 Zeffirelli film “Young Toscanini,” which was never released in the U.S.) As if to say “let bygones be bygones,” she co-starred with Reynolds, Joan Collins and Shirley MacLaine in the 2001 telepic “These Old Broads,” co-written by Reynolds’ daughter Carrie Fisher.

In May 2000, she went to a ceremony at Buckingham Palace making her a Dame of the British Empire. Taylor was always chronically late, and London’s Mail on Sunday reported, “One of her aides asked the palace courtiers how long the queen would wait if Liz were running late. They simply ignored the question and the silence was poignant.”

Taylor showed up on time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. Memorial service details will be released at a later date.

AT&T announced on Sunday that it has agreed to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion in cash and stock, in one of the biggest mergers since the onset of the financial crisis.

The deal will dramatically bolster AT&T’s footprint in the country, adding an additional 46.5 million customers.

The Roku devices are awesome ways to watch HD (or SD, if you want) video from services like Netflix and Hulu. Thousands of movies and the latest television shows. Since the device is less than $75, it inexpensively brings all the benefits of things like Google TV, at a much lower cost. Add Netflix and Hulu Plus for about $15/month, and you have a much better option than cable/satellite.

It’s dead simple to setup and works over home wireless networks. You can plug it into Ethernet if you want, but you don’t have to worry about lots of wires running around. The HDMI output also reduces your cabling mess.

What doesn’t is do?

stream from your home network, like the Western Digital WD TV Live Plus. Comes in handy when you’ve downloaded a Blu-Ray .mkv of the latest Hollywood releases.

play live news like CNN or live sports. So just make sure you get an invitation to someone else’s SuperBowl party.

I’m enjoying the Roku, but I’ll probably get the Western Digital WD TV Live Plus for the TV room if I don’t build an HTPC. The Roku’s great for the bedroom and guestroom, but I think I want a few more options downstairs.

Next project? Rebuilding the arcade cabinet / karaoke machine…

The FX Network‘s series Archer might be the funniest show on television. I can watch the old episodes on-demand via Netflix, and the new ones on Hulu.

I’m finding that the dynamic duo of Netflix and Hulu Plus (via either my XBox360, PS3 or Roku) make having cable TV irrelevant. And $15/month for all-you-can-eat TV and movies is so much better than conventional television.

And Fox’s Bob’s Burgers is also pretty amazing. I blame H. Jon Benjamin.

For the thousandth time, No we do not serve sweet potato fries. Sweet potato fries are for babies, because they’re candy basically.

Sterling Malory Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is considered the world’s most dangerous secret agent. In reality, his only real interest in the job is the opportunity to live a jetsetting lifestyle full of sex, alcohol, fast cars and spy toys. However, he does show proficiency in the stereotypical spy skills such as weapons, driving and martial arts, and even rival agents admit that no one is better in the field. As such, he is as likely to kill a room full of enemy agents as accidentally cause an international disaster. He is also notorious for taking every opportunity to have sex; Cheryl, his mother’s secretary, claims that he “turns women into whores,” and he is shown regularly frequenting prostitutes and impregnating his maid. Despite his bravado, he is dominated by his mother Malory, both professionally and personally – his code name is “Duchess,” the name of his mother’s dead dog. Archer has been shown to have had a very sad childhood, having been tortured by his mother with a wooden spoon, and living at boarding school since kindergarten where he had no friends. Despite this lack of friendship Archer is shown to be an accomplished lacrosse player all throughout boarding school. However he was also once left alone on Christmas Eve, after his mother moved and forgot to tell the school where she lived. Archer also has a love-hate relationship with fellow agent and ex-girlfriend Lana Kane, constantly claiming that she is still in love with him. He may also have some lingering feelings for Lana, continually seeking to undermine her relationship with Cyril, and even claiming that Cyril doesn’t deserve to be with her. A recurring joke is that Archer will forget one liners he thinks up, forgetting just as he is about to say it, then swearing “I had something for this” before saying something else. He also refuses to wear anything other than turtlenecks during operations (such as taking the time to change into one rather than immediately disarming a bomb), and claims he was the first to recognize the garment’s tactical potential. The one exception to this occurs in “Pipeline Fever” in which Archer dons a sleeveless vest in the Louisiana bayou. The reasoning behind this being that was what Burt Reynolds wore in the films “White Lightning” and “Gator”. Archer also admits to his biggest fears: alligators, crocodiles, and brain aneurysms. In the Season 1 finale “Dial M for Mother,” it is shown that Archer may have fathered a child with the hooker from the episode “Training Day.” In the episode “Blood Test” Archer, fearing it likely that he is the father of his favorite call girl Trinette’s baby, switches his blood sample with one taken from a drugged Cyril. However, the results of the test using Cyril’s sample ‘prove’ Archer is the father. Archer’s admission to the switch isn’t believed by ISIS or the ODIN agents. According to a computer screen readout in the show’s first episode, Archer is 36 years old, 6’2″, and weighs 184 lbs.

Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler) is the other top agent at ISIS. She is portrayed as a smart and tough agent, but is constantly frustrated that she’s still perceived as the second fiddle and passed over because Archer’s mother is the head of the agency. She formerly dated Archer, with whom she still has a complex love-hate relationship even though she was in a relationship with ISIS comptroller Cyril Figgis, whom she claimed she dated because he was nothing like Archer. When she eventually catches Cyril having sex with another woman, she hatches a revenge plan in which she offers sex on Cyril’s desk to every man in the office and Pam. In reality, she has sex only with Pam, and merely forces all the men to pay her for the opportunity to claim they had sex with her. Lana has a relatively good relationship with Archer’s mother, despite the fact Lana dumped her son – Malory admitted once she was glad the two broke up as a long-term relationship with another agent would be too painful for Archer. Lana has incredibly strong hands, regularly referred to as mannish or “Truckasaurus”-like by other ISIS staffers. In the episode “Blood Test,” Lana constantly thinks of what life could’ve been as a mother had she had a baby, so far as to tearing up as she listened to Malory and Archer’s conversation about how a baby may be the best thing for him. Malory personally recruited Lana when she tried to throw red paint on Malory’s fur coat at a protest, and Malory pulled a gun on her. Lana didn’t flinch, and, impressed, Malory offered her a chance to become an agent.

Malory Archer (Jessica Walter), Sterling Archer’s mother and the head of ISIS, is a self-centered alcoholic who regularly hatches half-baked and invariably disastrous schemes to use the agency’s resources to her own personal advantage, including staging a false assassination attempt on a U.N. official to secure a lucrative government contract. During her days as a black ops spy she had clandestine affairs with KGB head Nikolai Jackov, rival spy agency boss Len Trexler and jazz drummer Buddy Rich, and doesn’t know which of the three is Sterling’s biological father – she had told him that his father was John Fitzgerald Archer, an ace pilot who won the Navy Cross. She was a highly inattentive parent, shipping him to boarding school for thirteen years and once forgetting to tell the school she was moving to a new house, leaving him alone in the train station when he came home from school on Christmas Eve. As adults their relationship is highly antagonistic – she assigned him the code name “Duchess” after her deceased dog and at one point put out a burn notice on him after going on an absinthe binge in the wake of Sterling leaving ISIS for rival spy agency ODIN. However, she seems to have some affection for him, breaking down in tears when she thought he had been killed and being continually depressed during Sterling’s brief stint at ODIN. Malory originally wanted to be an aspiring actress, however on her way to her first audition for a spot in a commercial, she was offered a job as a secret agent.

Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell) is the comptroller of ISIS. He was at the beginning of season 1, Lana Kane’s love interest, although Lana refused to classify them as boyfriend and girlfriend or say she loved him – traits she attributes to trust issues left over from her relationship with Archer. A nebbishy, buttoned-down type who wears browline glasses and chops vegetables for supper in his office, he’s also so remarkably well-endowed that Pam and Cheryl are shocked when they hack into his company health records and discover that he once put in a claim for “penis ensmallment” surgery. He eventually is manipulated into cheating on Lana by Cheryl, and has trysts with Framboise, “Scatterbrain” Jane and Malory. Lana and Cyril separated as a couple after Lana finally caught him with Framboise. Cyril later claims to suffer from sexual addiction, a claim that Lana thinks ridiculous. A condition that apparently required him to spend a summer “upstate” in a mental institution. He’s shown in the early half of the 2nd season consuming 3 to 4 blue pills from an orange prescription bottle each time he’s stressed in order to control these apparent urges. In “Blood Test”, Cyril is shown to be the father of the child everyone believes to be Archer’s.

Cheryl (Judy Greer) is Malory’s secretary, who regularly has her name legally changed for dubious reasons – she has gone by Carol, Carina and Cristal at various points in the series. She thinks she is smarter than most of her coworkers, but regularly shows a startling lack of intelligence, such as trying to turn on her computer by typing O-N on the keyboard, wondering aloud who brings Jewish people their Christmas presents and thinking that a website can tell her whether she’s pregnant. During the course of the series, she reveals recurring fantasies about being strangled to death during sex.

Pam Poovey (Amber Nash) is the human resources director of ISIS. She condescends to the staff by talking through a dolphin puppet in disciplinary meetings and regularly gossips confidential information to the entire office – when Archer claimed to be on a very secret mission to find a mole in the agency, within an hour almost everyone knew about it. Pam is constantly belittled by her coworkers for her weight and subjected to cruel jokes about food. Pam is extremely desperate to get just one of her colleagues, male or female, to have sex with her, which Lana agrees to in “Dial M for Mother”, though she claims that she imagined Pam as Alex Karras the whole time.

Dr. Krieger (Lucky Yates) is the head of the ISIS applied research department, who spends most of his time working on projects to facilitate his own kinky sexual fantasies — including an advanced sex robot named Fister Roboto, a mechanical hand to choke Cheryl when his own hands aren’t strong enough for her taste, a drug that instills homosexual urges in its users which eventually kills Danny, the company intern, and a holographic girlfriend simulation that was so sophisticated, the state of New York legally allowed him to marry it. He also kills their other intern, Chet, by having him wear a not-quite-bulletproof vest during a live-fire test. He’s alluded to frequently drugging other co-workers while admitting to Pam “I’ve had good results with ether” when advising her on how to increase her odds for having sex with co-workers. For the first three episodes, ‘Krieger’ as he’s often simply called, did not speak; suggesting a non-speaking role. He first speaks during the fourth episode when passionately coming to the defense of his reasoning for creating Fister Roboto. Krieger has also alluded that homeless people are needed to be included in his sexual fantasies in order for him to achieve an erection. He also seems to become aroused when others around him are in an upset/yelling type of state. In the second season Krieger admits to not being an actual doctor of any kind, albeit under his breath and no one else was paying attention to this statement. Despite this shortcoming, he has proven himself to be a capable doctor, such as being able to sucessfully perform brain surgery while on LSD. During the 1st season, what appears to be crash test dummies at the background of his lab, turn out to be more perfected servant androids in the 2nd season, which Sterling refers to as ‘Krigerbots’.

Woodhouse (George Coe) is Sterling’s long-suffering British butler, who patiently accepts the unending stream of abuse hurled at him by his employer. An occasional heroin user, he frequently hints at a mysterious military career which has included experience with cannibalism in the King’s African Rifles and a romantic relationship with a young man in his school days who was killed during World War I. It was later revealed he received the Victoria Cross for his service. Archer is quite unreasonable with him, and routinely disciplines him by throwing his clothing, shoes and other belongings over his balcony. Woodhouse originally met Archer’s mother while she was pregnant with him, assisted in his birth (even inadvertently being responsible for choosing his name; Sterling), and has been with the family ever since, raising Archer since birth without question. When properly motivated, Woodhouse has also shown to be a proficient and fluid killing machine; at least in his younger days, even with a single knife.
