Awkward Family Photos

We’ve all seen the horrible Olan Mills photos. Here’s a slightly more uncomfortable twist: Awkward Family Photos.
Compiling both found-on-the-net and user-submitted photos that capture kin at their most socially weird, AFP’s from a pair of screenwriter buddies, one of whom claims to’ve “always been a fan of awkwardness”, and proved it up by writing [...]

HD DVD is dead

It’s official. I returned my Toshiba HD DVD A3 Player to Amazon today after watching just three HD movies on it.
HD movies are awesome. We saw Jumpers in the theater yesterday, and I’m convinced that an HD movie on my home screen is better. Jumpers was still visually stunning, and is nice [...]

i don’t like ann coulter

and i’m wondering why her ads are showing on my blog.
perhaps because i have written about firearms? i don’t know.

the downfall of hd dvd

i’m pretty geeky. there aren’t many people who care about the ‘format wars’ of hd dvd versus blu-ray. but things have gotten hot lately as studios jump ship and hd dvd fights back.
toshiba announced a price drop on their base player, the hd a3, and you can scoop one up on amazon right [...]

super comet redux

the discovery channel recently ran a great show (in HD) playing with the idea of a super comet. specifically, they tried to recreate the comet which killed the dinosaurs only they changed the era to be the modern one. visuals were cool, and the whole story is a great one– only a small [...]

John McCain Ads

I’ve been running Google Adsense for a while, and I ocassionally get an ad for LEGO or for a video game console. That’s not surprising, because I like those things and I may have mentioned them.
Today I saw an ad for John McCain on the site. Perhaps there’s one now.
I’m not sure how [...]

Cablevision called back!

Finally, Cablevision called me back! Woo hoo! And the super helpful, if not interrupt prone, David turned my bandwidth on again. Apparently, sustained uploads and high levels of contention on the Cablevision network devices will cause this to cap happen. So, they can’t tell me how much I can use the [...]

SXSW: Spore. I want.

Will Wright demo’ed his new game Spore today. Its the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen on a computer. Like everyone else in the room, I want it.
Imagine being able to walk through the wardrobe every day of your life. On your laptop. Amazing.

SXSW: Dan Rather? Yes, Dan Rather.

The esteemed Mr Rather spoke to us today about history, news, his transition to HDNet, where he gets MacNeil-Lehrer-esque latitude to report what he wants, how he wants.
While I love HDNet, I haven’t seen Dan’s show yet, so I can’t comment on it. I need to setup the Tivo with it ASAP.
It is interesting [...]

SXSW continues to rock

Some good sessions. Some not so good. Kathy Sierra was much more insightful than I expected, and hugely more useful (albeit less trendy) than last year’s keynote (wasnt it craig of the list and jimmy of the wiki?) I found it to be the most useful session I’ve ever had here, and think ill try [...]

Blackberry 8820 can’t get here fast enough

Boogie’s Porn Blog is the personal webjournal of an adult pornographer. Its a random assortment of porn, rants, and celebrity news and nudity. Why would you pay for content?

Thousands of sources of content, which would normally have a premium associated with them, are now free to residents of New York.
What does that mean? It means that I don’t have to pay lots of dosh to do research. It means the tools like LexisNexis have slightly less value for cross-publication search. [...]
