She arrives tomorrow 1

Tomorrow, my new-to-me 1999 Honda VFR800 Interceptor arrives. I haven’t owned a bike since my 1997 Triumph Trophy 900 was impounded in the UK back in 2004 (that’s a long story).

I’m very psyched. This is probably more bike than I need, but it’s likely the best all arounder out there. I looked at the Ducati Monster Dark. Loved it, but they’re a few thousand more dollars and aren’t as comfy for long rides or for a passenger. (L loved being on the Enfield when we were in India, so we’ll try riding two up for some exploration of the Hudson Valley.) I looked at some Buells as well, but they too weren’t as versatile.

I’ve ridden two VFRs in my life, both on the mountains in Interlaken, Switzerland. They’re perfect. They feel much lighter than the 440lbs listed. They’re sporty, totally capable and absolutely able to carry a passenger for a few hours.

And I’ve already got plans for this bike. Rhino Armor / Line-X for the outer fairings. Flat paint on the tank and I’m still trying to figure out what to do with the rear section. I’ll have to see if that can be Rhino’ed as well. And I’ve been looking into warm color (3200-4000K) HID lights. The last thing I want are blue lights on this rice burner. But I do want brights, and there are some good conversion kits which don’t look cheap.

I’ll also need to figure out where the ValentineOne goes.

Finally, I’m back on a motorcycle. Let’s see how long it is before I kill myself!
